We have successfully amplified the ITS1 and ITS2 regions from genomic DNA from one Trichuris worm isolated from a baboon gut, using the NC2 and NC5 primers (Cutillas et al 2002 Parasitol Res 88: 574-582)...but have not been able to identify the corresponding sequence for Trichuris trichiura from Genbank. We have tried to obtain a human Trichuris trichiura locally, but without success. Next best would be to try and get the sequence of Trichuris trichuira from humans from another source. *Has anyone ever managed to sequence the human Trichuris trichiura ITS1 and ITS2? Or would anyone have an aliquot of Trichuris trichiura genomic DNA or the nematode specimens which you would willing to send to us?* Thank you very much Damiana Ravasi -- Damiana Ravasi UCT Baboon Research Unit (BRU) Zoology Department University of Cape Town Rondebosch 7701 South Africa Tel: +27 (0)21 6503645 Fax: +27 (0)21 6503295 Cell: +27 (0)72 1908305 E-mail: damianaravasi@gmail.com http://www.baboonsonline.com/bru/project/parasites -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Human infection with T. trichura is common in Libya? and has been recorded at Tripoli. I would suggest you send your request to : ????????????????? Professor Mabrouk K. Zaid ????????????????? Head, Department of Medical Parasitology ??????????????????Faculty of Medicine, Al-Fatah Medical University.\? ??????????????????Tripoli, Libya as well as to: ?????????????????? Director, ?????????????????? School of Tropical Medicine, ?????????????????? Kolkata,India. ????????????????? Also try contacting Dian R. Bell, He? has an access to Hospital of Tropical Diseases,London and himself a nematode man?(Strongyloides stercoralis) and would surely help you. Human gut paraites (alive) can be obtained through purgation unless surgical probing. Had you take Enterobius vermicularis, the material could have been obtained abundantly. Best wishes for your continued progress with a very interesting project.?
