The simple solution would be to try with less starting material.
Increase also incubation time with Prot K or its amount. Undegisted
proteins could contribute to viscosity.
The greenish color can be removed (or at least lessen) by doing one
extraction with only phenol before the phenol/ chloroform step.
The precipitation should be performed by using less centrifugation
speed (say 10 000 rpm instead of 13k rpm). Washing with 70% ethanol
however is on max speed.
