We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and innovative
bioinformatician to develop and implement a bioinformatics strategy to
support research and service activities within the Department of
Gastrointestinal, Emerging and Zoonotic Infections (GEZI) at CfI. The
strategy and related projects will be wide-ranging including supporting
and integrating the needs of the laboratory (the development of
databases and related tools for microbial molecular data retrieval,
analysis and visualisation) and the epidemiology/public health
activities (e.g establishment of web-based analysis and reporting
resources) . The post-holder will be employed within the GEZI Department
but will also work closely with other stakeholders in particular with
the Bioinformatics Unit staff, as well as with microbiologists and
epidemiologists in both the UK and internationally in developing the
projects. The post would particularly suit a bioinformatician looking to
develop a strategic as well as operational role, also with
interest/knowledge of microbiology and/or molecular biology. Excellent
communication and relationship building skills are required as are
proven skills and experience in Perl, Ruby or other programming language
and in web database development. Experience in additional programming
languages e.g. Java and in methods for the analysis of microbial
molecular data would be advantageous as would supervisory, project and
'customer-facing' experience.
