TITLE Postdoc in Multiscale Modeling of Prion Protein Oligomerization
FIELD(S) Theoretical/computational biophysics, computational
biology/medicine,
         Molecular & structural biology

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Theory and Modeling
Group at the National Institute for Nanotechnology and University of Alberta
(Edmonton, Canada) in the area of the theoretical and computational modeling
of all stages of amyloidogenesis in prion diseases, from initial misfolding
of prion proteins to oligomerization and formation of amyloid fibrils under
different solvent conditions.

The research will include advanced all-atom molecular dynamics simulations
using high performance computing, structure refinement calculations based
on NMR derived restraints, analysis of the association thermodynamics of
protein assemblies, methodological development of coarse-grained models of
protein aggregates, and the use of statistical-mechanical molecular theory
of solvation.

The incumbent will join the interdisciplinary program of theory and
modeling on multiple length and time scales, which addresses frontier
challenges in bionanosciences, nanomaterials, and nanodevices.
The incumbent will closely interact with the staff of the Theory and
Modeling Group and experimental collaborators on the project.

The position requires most of the following:

- PhD in biophysics/computational biology/theoretical physics/chemistry
  or a related field, received within last 5 years;
- Experience in large-scale biomolecular simulations, including
  molecular modeling of proteins, molecular dynamics and Monte
  Carlo simulations, free energy calculations;
- Experience in protein structure prediction, sequence and structure
  alignment, docking;
- Experience in development and implementation of methods of theoretical
  biological physics and computational biology;
- Fluency in scientific programming;
- Demonstrated record of research productivity;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Experience of collaboration with experimentalists will be considered
  an asset.

The salary will depend on the skills and experience of the incumbent.

The position is initially for 1 year, renewable on a yearly basis,
subject to the incumbent's performance.
