Map Manager Classic
Map Manager QT
Map Manager XP
Map Manager is a program for a Macintosh personal computer
which helps analyze the results of genetic mapping experiments using backcrosses,
intercrosses, or recombinant inbred (RI) strains. It is a specialized database
program which allows easy storage, retrieval, and display of information
from such mapping experiments, but it also has tools for statistical analysis
of the experimental results.
Map Manager was created and is maintained by Kenneth
F. Manly , Robert Cudmore, Jr, and Greg Kohler in the Department of
Molecular and Cellular Biology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The development
and distribution of Map Manager is supported in part by a grant from The
Rockefeller Foundation and by a subcontract from The
Jackson Laboratory Mouse Genome Informatics Project, which is funded
Two new versions of Map Manager are under development.
- Map Manager QT,
derived from Map Manager v2.6.5, has new functions for analysis of quantitative
traits. Recent developments with this program are shown in the version history for the
test version releases.
- Map Manager XP,
a completely new program, will be available for Windows as well as Mac
OS, and will handle intercrosses with dominant markers and crosses with
mixed segregation patterns. The Window 95/NT version of this program
is now available.
Map Manager Classic was released on Friday August 11, 1995
This version is also known as Map Manager v2.6.5. It will continue
to be supported for those who do not need the newer features of the programs
above and for those running System 6.
Map Manager v2.6.4 was released on Friday June 30, 1995
Map Manager v2.6.3 was released on Friday April 15, 1995
Map Manager v2.6.2 was limited in public release.
Map Manager v2.6.1 was released on Friday January 6, 1995

strain data collection. 5/1/97
The CXB RI data set has been updated with information from Panoutsakopoulou
and coworkers (Mamm. Gen. 8: 357-361 (1997)). This data set is included
in the above RI strain data collection, and it is also available as a separate
- Ooops!! We inadvertantly saved the AXB,BXA dataset with QT information!
If you downloaded this collection before 2/7/97, You will be unable to
open the AXB,BXA dataset with Map Manager Classic. Download the entire
file again or just get the corrected
hybrid data for chr 13. The data were obtained by typing the RH set
purchased from Research Genetics. These data can be viewed and analyzed
with Map Manager QTb16 or a newer version of Map Manager QT. Set the program
to use the RH hybrid option under the Linkage Evaluation submenu of the

- Send us an email request and we will send
you disks with Map Manager Classic, Map Manager QT, data files from mouse
RI sets, a printed manual, and a hypertext manual covering both programs.
If you already have the software you need, check the appropriate box on
the form and we will send you only the printed manual.
- We have a new hypertext
manual which covers both Map Manager Classic and Map Manager QT. This
manual requires a frames-aware Web browser such as Netscape Navigator 2
or better. We hope that this hypertext manual will replace the previous
printed manual, because the electronic format is easier to distribute and
update. However, it would be possible to produce a printed manual if the
electronic format is unsatisfactory. If you think a printed manual would
be useful, let us let us
the new hypertext manual, which consists of almost 200 files, as a single
stuffed archive, for installation on your own machine.
