These files are compressed, so you will need a version of uncompress to convert them to readable text files. Be sure to FTP them in binary mode! These files are from the "PDB CD Sampler, Summer 1992" and will be available ONLY between 5PM and 9AM Central time weekdays, but full time on weekends. You will get a surprise if you try to FTP the whole directory. They will also only be available until the PDB gets its own, comprehensive FTP site running, some time in the fall. The ftp area contains ONLY the coordinate files; no index files are available here. Also no "pre-release" coordinates are here: see the PDB's ftp area for that. Specific entries should be looked up using the PDB's WAIS server then fetched from the Gene-Server via FTP. See the file "advisory.doc" for important re-distribution information. Part of it is: IT IS A COMMON GOAL OF THE NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION, THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH, AND THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY TO HAVE THE RESULTS OF WORK WHICH THEY SUPPORT MADE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC AND DISSEMINATED AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE. THE PROTEIN DATA BANK DATABASE IS BEING MADE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC IN FURTHERANCE OF THAT COMMON OBJECTIVE. IT SHOULD BE NOTED, HOWEVER, THAT IT IS IMPROPER FOR ANY RECIPIENT OF THE PROTEIN DATA BANK DATABASE TO OFFER SAID COMPUTER FILES, MAGNETIC TAPES, MICROFICHE, LISTINGS, OR ANY FURTHER PROTEIN DATA BANK PRODUCT OR COPIES THEREOF FOR SALE AS A COMMERCIAL ITEM. Remember, this is temporary and will be removed if abused. All FTP transactions are logged. dan davison Gene-Server manager
