National Library of Medicine/Lister Hill Center Database of AI and Molecular Biology Researchers Version 1.8 (Feb 18, 1993) Compiled by Lawrence Hunter Description: The Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications of the National Library of Medicine has compiled a database of scientists, graduate students, funding agents, and other researchers active in the field of artificial intelligence and molecular biology. This database contains the names, institutional affiliations, addresses, telephone and fax numbers, email addresses, and research interests of about 225 researchers. Availability: The purpose of the database is to facilitate scientific communication among this geographically and academically diverse group of researchers. The database will be made available by anonymous ftp from the internet, and by email upon request to researchers who do not have internet access. The internet host is lhc.nlm.nih.gov (130.14.1.128). The files are stored in the directory /pub/aimb-db. You can log in as user "anonymous" with your email address as your password. The database was compiled at government expense, and cannot be copyrighted. The database may be freely redistributed SO LONG AS THIS FILE IS INCLUDED AND NO MODIFICATIONS ARE MADE TO ANY OF THE FILES. Files: The database is available in two ascii formats: one designed to be easily readable by people, and the other designed to be easily readable by machines. The file extension for people is .text and for machines is .data. Information in the database was collected from several sources, primarily direct submission from the researchers themselves. Although steps were taken to verify all the information in the database, it is not guaranteed to be correct. Revisions to the database will be released as time permits. This database is experimental, and the government reserves the right to cease distributing or maintaining the database at its convenience. Included in the distribution directory is a module for the gnu-emacs editor which manages the database, called aimb-db.el. You can use this code to search the database for individuals and put the information about them in any edit buffer. There are instructions about how to install it in the file. Data File format: Fields are separated by $ and the records are separated by *. The first record has the name of each field as the value of the field. The fields are (in order): Degree First-name Last-Name Unique-id Organization Department Job-type Address area-code phone fax email alt-email research-interests comments date-updated. Getting added to the database: Please let me know if you would like to be included in the database. Retreive the file data-entry-form, fill it out, and email it to the address below. If you cannot find or retrieve the form, send me email and I will send you a copy. Contact with database maintainer: To request the database, add or update an entry, or ask a question about the database, contact me at: Dr. Lawrence Hunter National Library of Medicine Lister Hill Center Bldg. 38A, MS-54 8600 Rockville Pike Bethesda, MD 20894 phone: (301) 496-9300 fax: (301) 496-0673 email: hunter@nlm.nih.gov
