Presently, only data and indices from the latest SWISS-PROT release are available. As soon as data can be made made available systematically between releases, it will be made available via the EMBL File Server. The following files are available in the PROT directory: o Every entry in the current release of the SWISS-PROT Protein Sequence database. Each entry is stored in a separate file; the filename is the same as the entryname. Entries can be accessed either by ENTRY NAME or ACCESSION NUMBER. o Database indices ACNUMBER.NDX - accession number index AUTHOR.NDX - author index CITATION.NDX - citation index KEYWORD.NDX - keyword index SHORTDIR.NDX - short directory index SPECIES.NDX - species index o RELNOTES.DOC - Release Notes for the latest release of the SWISS-PROT Protein Sequence Database o SWISSPRT.USR - The SWISS-PROT Protein Sequence Database user manual which describes the format and conventions used in the database. An example: The following commands can be mailed to the EMBL File Server to get a copy of the SWISS-PROT entries B2MG$RAT and P01930 (accession number). GET Prot:B2MG$RAT GET Prot:P01930 29-May-1990
