EMBL-Search v2.0 is a genuine Macintosh application which closely follows Apple's user interface guidelines. It allows rapid look-ups of database entries by accession number, entry names, authors, keywords, taxonomy or full text searches. Boolean operations are supported. Entries can be exported in several popular sequence formats. Index files may be moved to a hard disk to further increase the speed of searches. A database CD-ROM can be easily mounted on a central server and accessed by other Macs over a local AppleTalk/EtherTalk network. EMBL-Search makes use of the cross-references information in the EMBL and Swiss-Prot databases (DR lines). Thus, users can easily navigate from one database to the other. EMBL-Search comes with an extensive manual in MS WORD and MacWrite format. EMBL-Search requires the December 1991 release of the EMBL CD-ROM or later. It runs on every Macintosh model with System 6.0.5 or later and is fully System 7 compatible. Of course, a CD-ROM drive is required that supports the international ISO9660 standard. EMBL-Search is available free of charge. Copies can be obtained from: - The EMBL e-mail server: Send "get mac_software:embl-search.hqx" to netserv@embl-heidelberg.de - The EMBL ftp server: Anonymous ftp to ftp.embl-heidelberg.de. Look for /pub/software/mac/embl-search.hqx - On floppy disk with a printed version of the manual: The EMBL Data Library Postfach 10.2209 W-6900 Heidelberg Germany Phone: +49-6221-387 258 Fax: +49-6221-387 519 E-mail: Datalib@EMBL-Heidelberg.DE The complete source code is also freely available to allow personal customisation (mac_software:embl-search_src.hqx on the e-mail server and /pub/software/mac/embl-search_src.hqx on the ftp server).
