This directory contains historical releases of GenBank and related
biology sequence databanks, culled from CD ROM distributions.

GB = GenBank, EM = EMBL, Sw = SwissProt.  NCBI Entrez CD
releases have sequence data from several databanks in ASN.1 format
(can be converted to text).  Contents and origin of the NCBI CD-ROM 
releases (Entrez and GenBank-flatfile) is described here:

There is a SwissProt historical release archive at
ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/swissprot/sw_old_releases/
It contains releases 09 (1988)  to 45 (2004) 

The *EMBL Sequence Version Archive* has similar historical
versions of sequence releases.   Find this at

Most people don't care about these historical releases, as the data,
possibly updated and corrected, is available in current releases.  For
some critical purposes, research using the older data requires these
historical releases be available for confirmation.

if you have release copies missing from above (esp. if you have archival
copies of the post-CD releases from 1997-2005), or if you would like to
contribute to the cost of providing these.
